Litany Writes a Book

“Litany Writes A Book” – that was the name of the Google doc shared between the giggles of myself, Lilly, and Veronica in Spring 2023. During one of our ordinary Tuesday meetings, we discussed how the “liturgical style” articles were such a hit in 2022 that we marveled at the possibility of collaborating on a book.
Without skipping a beat, I immediately listed out my favorite theological texts and resources while typing an outline. After a month, I already had a chapter written. Lilly and Veronica enthusiastically encouraged me to run with it, to write without hesitation.
For the record, I didn’t always plan on writing a book. I was not one of the grad students with big ideas of turning their thesis into a book or writing a prayer series.
Looking back over the last five years of writing for Litany, it makes sense that I have grown in courage, creativity, and endurance to bring about this book because of the space Veronica created in the fashion industry. Veronica’s love and sacrifice poured into Litany overflows and provides fertile soil for everyone around her to thrive. The atmosphere of any business is transformed when the owner surrenders to the life of grace and invites the Holy Spirit into the creative process.
Spend a day with Veronica and you will probably be inspired to dabble in oil painting, attempt clay sculpting, maneuver weaving, or try lyrical dancing; essentially, anything that connects you with beauty in a tactile way through the act of creating.
No one wonder that what began as simple blog posts was transformed into a bright blue linen bound book.

The book traces the significance of the liturgical seasons of the Church as communicated through clothing based on the theological meaning of colors and textiles. It is stamped with gold, filled with photography from each of Litany’s photoshoots, and detailed with contemplative sacred art to guide you through Church history.
If you have the chance to read The Liturgical Style Guide, I hope you are delighted by my favorite part of the design: the delicate flowers that guide you through the chapters. Each flower represents a liturgical season based on the natural season in which it blooms. The growing vine along the pages reminds us of the slow work of God in each season—steady growth—quiet blooming.
The Liturgical Style Guide would not have been possible without the support of Lilly and Veronica as it is inspired by both the “theology of style” and the mission of Litany.

Lilly made us sentimental and teary as she wrote the foreword. Her book, Theology of Style: Expressing the Unique and Unrepeatable You, explains the why regarding the relationship between faith and fashion while The Liturgical Style Guide expresses the how. It has been the sweetest gift to have Lilly as one of my biggest cheerleaders, fighting in my corner throughout the writing, editing, and publishing of this book.
The heart of Litany’s mission has always been: to create garments that honor the dignity of the human person as made in the image and likeness of God, from each heart involved in the production process to those who wear our designs or simply read our articles. I am honored to have written and published a book that is the fruit of this mission. I hope The Liturgical Style Guide can serve as a reminder of your innate goodness and spark creativity in getting dressed as a means for prayer.
