The lourdes collection
“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” - Ezekiel 36:26
When Our Lady appeared to young St. Bernadette Soubirous in Lourdes, France, in 1858 she asked the young girl to have a chapel built at the site of this stony grotto. She also told her to dig in the soil until healing waters sprung up from the ground. This water has been healing bodies and souls of their physical, emotional, and spiritual wounds ever since.
Our wounds take primacy with God. He is the divine physician that sees us, knows us and comes to bind up our wounds, transforming them into something glorious.
Images of countless crutches and wheelchairs left behind at the grotto of Massabielle reminded each of us of our own time at Lourdes - a time and place where we encountered the love of God through the sacramentality of our faith.
Seeing volunteers help each woman who sought healing and mercy help us understand the beauty of communion.
The waters at the stony grotto, eroding, shaping and transforming the rock over time is a poignant reminder that God’s grace works on our stony hearts slowly, reshaping and transforming them, beating in tandem with His sacred heart and the Immaculate heart of His mother.
It is in our wounds that we encounter God.
It is in this primary place that we begin to enter into a deeply personal and intimate relationship with Him.
The Lourdes collection is an expression of this encounter.
We have expressed our contemplation of this encounter in carefully draped shapes inspired by the wrapping of wounds, textiles that portray the movement of waters, and colors chosen from the interior of the basilica at Lourdes.
A soft yellow prominent in the collection reminds us of the yellow roses that Our Lady wore on her feet when she appeared to St. Bernadette.
The cool, metal texture of grommets acts as a symbol of how our stony hearts can be transformed into something new, just as the grommets transform the look of our garments into a new way of being worn.
At Litany we want to heal the wounds of the fashion industry. We believe that these wounds can be transformed into something glorious. We want to delve deeper into the ways we clothe ourselves- from how we construct garments to where we source our materials from, and use both to express each women's unique soul.
The Lourdes collection is where we are starting.
The collection is an ode to the French Couture houses that inspired us as young designers to bring a little bit of magic to every woman.
It is also a prayerful reflection on the healing and merciful love of God that we witness through the message of Lourdes.
We have created it as a tangible reminder to build a chapel for God in our own hearts that have been transformed by grace - a place where we can continue to be transformed in the safety of truth, beauty, and goodness.
We hope it comes to mean as much to you as it does to us.
